Mar. 2--State enterprises in Thailand posted a combined net profit of 42.5 billion baht in the first quarter of the 2002 fiscal year, 23.3 billion baht over the profit target of 19.2 billion baht.
The improved profit, which covers the period beginning in October last year, was mainly attributed to the weakening of the Japanese yen, which contributed 14.8 billion baht to the bottom line.
The remaining 8.5 billion baht was operating profit, said Suranand Vejjajiva, deputy secretary to the Prime Minister.
