Quota Deal Reduces Resistance from Thailand Garment Traders.
Mar. 4--The Commerce Ministry has compromised with disgruntled exporters in setting new regulations for allocating quotas to garment traders.
Seventeen percent of the basic quota will be earmarked for a central pool for allocation to new and small exporters, down from 25 percent proposed earlier, according to Adisai Bodharamik, the commerce minister.
Exporters who fail to return the unused portion of their basic quota to the Foreign Trade Department by July each year will have their allocation reduced in the following year.
