Apr. 2--Tourism operators and officials hope to make the Songkran festival starting on April 13 the best ever in an effort to promote the traditional Thai New Year celebrations as a world-class event.
"We hope to put Songkran on the world calendar, like the Rio carnival in Brazil, and the effort starts this year when Bangkok marks its 220th anniversary," said Suraphon Svetasreni, director of tourism resources development at the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
