Apr. 2--Thais must learn to take pride in their country, reduce extravagant spending and change the mentality that foreign goods are better than local products, according to Gen Prem Tinsulanonda.
The privy councillor and elder statesman said supporting Thai goods was not a call for nationalism or opposing foreign products.
Gen Prem, speaking at a seminar hosted at Bangkok Bank yesterday, noted that some groups in society favoured foreign goods as a sign of their prosperity.
But such demonstrations of wealth caused problems for society overall, by emphasising the income gap between the rich and poor.
