May 6--A modified van with fewer than 10 passenger seats should be taxed at the same rate as personal cars, which is higher than the levy on commercial vans, according to Suchart Jaovisidha, a deputy finance minister.
The idea is among proposals being considered by the Finance Ministry in restructuring vehicle excise taxes.
The system would be fairer, he said, if luxury vans that were modified by removing some seats were taxed as cars.
