MasterCard to Spend $40 Million on Thai Promotion Linked to World Cup.

May 3--MasterCard International plans to spend US$40 million in Thailand on a promotion linked with the World Cup soccer tournament.

The campaign would be the company's largest in the country and was intended to lift brand awareness among consumers, said Ajay Bhalla, the senior vice-president for Southeast Asia.

MasterCard, an official sponsor of the tournament, is the only payment card linked with the event. Pele, the Brazilian soccer legend, is the company's sports ambassador. The campaign covers the major print and broadcast media and outdoor billboards.
