May 1--Thailand has gained ground in an influential report on international competitiveness, rising to 34th place among 49 countries surveyed, from 38th a year ago in the annual survey by the International Institute for Management Development.
The United States topped the list but other major players such as Singapore and Hong Kong lost ground in the turbulent economic environment, according to the World Competitiveness Yearbook.
The annual survey ranks countries in four main categories -- economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure -- based on more than 300 criteria.
