Thai Bankers' Association Gets New Chairman.

May 1--Chartsiri Sophonpanich, president of Bangkok Bank, was named yesterday new chairman of the Thai Bankers' Association.
Mr Chartsiri, who becomes the TBA's 19th chairman, succeeds Chulakorn Singhakowin, president of Bank of Asia. The term is for two years.
Mr Chartsiri said he would call a meeting of the association's members within the next two weeks to discuss policies and appoint a vice-chairman.
On the interest rate policy, he said it was up to each bank to set its own rates, but he personally felt that existing rates were "appropriate" for the economy.
