Jun. 5--Local jewellery traders say they are losing export market share to low-cost foreign producers that receive strong support from their governments.
Rivals in China, India and Vietnam had full state support for the production of precious stones and ornaments, said Pramote Tiasuwan, vice-executive chairman of Pranda Jewelry Plc, the country's largest jewellery exporter.
As a result, they could produce goods at lower cost and with quality close to that of Thai products, Mr Pramote said at an industry seminar yesterday.
