Jun. 1--Large retailers will be prevented from treating manufacturers and product suppliers unfairly.
The Commerce Ministry will strengthen the Trade Competition Act to prohibit certain practices in the retailing industry, after a study by a ministerial working group.
The study found that contracts between discount stores and suppliers had been drafted unfairly, said Newin Chidchob, the deputy minister.
For instance, the retailers charged entrance fees for products and passed on advertising and sales promotion costs to suppliers, he said.
