2004 OCT 7 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Psychologists in China report that the Eating Disorder Inventory, a questionnaire used to help diagnose eating disorders, has "transcultural validity," as demonstrated in a study of adolescent Chinese girls.
F. Leung and colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong analyzed the responses of 2,256 teenage girls (12-18 years old) to the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI). The questionnaires were administered at the girls' schools and completed anonymously.
"Findings indicate that the internal consistency estimates for the eight EDI scales were in the acceptable range, with alpha ranging from 0.68 for Perfectionism to 0.87 for Body Dissatisfaction. With the exception of a few items, the item-total correlations were also acceptable for the eight scales," reported the psychologists.
"Findings of the principal components analysis support the original eight clinically-derived EDI constructs," they noted.
