For as long as Hi Fi has existed we have put an amplifier in one corner of the room and connected it through a pair of cables to a speaker with multiple drivers. The signal is steered to each driver by the crossover network. How many things are wrong with this? Let me just touch on the lowest points,
1) Passive crossovers are not brick wall filters. The low-pass crossover to the woofer does not suddenly go from full signal level to 0 (we call this a brick wall filter) and the high pass crossover does not suddenly go from 0 to full signal.
