Jul. 4--Asia Wireless Communications Co, the marketer of the PCT phone service, is spending 100 million baht to replace its box-pattern antennas with high-gain units to cover the all of metropolitan Bangkok.

The new antennas were widely used in Taiwan and China, where operators were satisfied with their quality and price, said Saharat Kanongsilp, AWC's vice-president of marketing.

Compared with the existing units, which cost 105,000 baht per point, the new antennas, manufactured in China, cost just 5,000 baht each. Their coverage is also double that of the old type, for which the radius was limited to 20-250 metres.
