Jul. 3--Shin Satellite Plc, the country's sole satellite operator has appointed Samart Telcom Plc (Samtel) as a service provider for its multimedia satellite service.

The deal will make Vsat (very small aperture satellite) operator Samtel the second local service provider for the business after CS Communications Co, which clinched a similar deal last year. Both Shin Satellite and CS Communications are subsidiaries of Shin Corporation Plc.

A source said Samtel would allocate transponders to sell to individuals and small and medium-sized businesses. The amount to be allocated to Samtel was not disclosed.
