Jul. 2--The government intends to reassure Malaysia of Thailand's commitment to go ahead with the long-delayed Thai-Malaysia gas pipeline project when Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visits Thailand this coming weekend.
Industry Minister Suriya Juengrungruangkij said officials would tell Dr Mahathir that it was ready to proceed with the project, aimed at bringing gas from the Joint Development Area (JDA) for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Construction has been shelved for two years due to objections by environmental groups and local residents.
