Jul. 2--A local laboratory says that the orange colour in Thai orange-pink sapphires is induced by internal migration of trace elements, according to the Thai Gem and Jewellery Traders' Association.
Professors Adolf Peretti and Detlef Gunther conducted research on Thailand's heat treatment of fancy sapphires.
They are quoted as saying that the colour is derived from trace elements such as baryllium, magnesium, iron, titanium and chromium.
