Aug. 5--Frito-Lay (Thailand) Co, part of PepsiCo, will introduce new snacks this year and spend as much as 400 million baht, 50 percent more than last year, on sales promotions.
The market in Thailand is very competitive with at least 360 brands of salty snacks available, of which 80 percent are actively promoted, according to Peter Gutierrez, the managing director of Frito-Lay (Thailand) Co.
In comparison, Israel and the United Kingdom each have 30 to 50 brands.
As the Thai market was very fragmented, the company had to monitor consumer preferences regularly to formulate its strategy, Mr Gutierrez said.
