Aug. 4--A new central body overseeing tourism aims to unite the private sector and ensure travel-related businesses move in the same direction.
The Tourism Council of Thailand also plans to play a bigger role in promoting tourism, a role long dominated by state-sponsored agencies.
Vichit na Ranong, the council's chairman, said it would be a true representative of the private sector, reflecting the needs and problems of the private operators and conveying them to the government.
At the same time, it would communicate the government's tourism policies to the private sector.
