Aug. 2--Thai Plastic and Chemicals Plc (TPC) has announced plans to acquire a 1 percent stake in Rayong Olefins Co for 93.6 million baht, saying the move would strengthen its bargaining power in buying ethylene from Rayong Olefins.

TPC, the largest manufacturer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in Southeast Asia, currently has a 6 percent stake in Rayong Olefins. It buys around 57,000 tons of ethylene from Rayong Olefins per year, representing 7 percent of the company's total output.

"We needed to have an additional one-percent stake in order to balance our management power in the company," said a TPC executive who asked not to be named.
