Aug. 1--Tourism New Zealand opened an office in Bangkok yesterday as part of a drive to more than double the number of Thai visitors to 50,000 a year by 2005.
The office in Empire Tower on Sathon Road is part of the tourism agency's global campaign, 100 percent Pure New Zealand, to make the country the ultimate destination for travellers.
George Hickton, the agency's chief executive, said Thailand had considerable potential as a source of tourists.
"We believe it's important to have a presence in this market to capitalise on this growth," he said.
