Securities Case in Thailand Sparks Call to Review Laws.
Aug. 1--The House banking and finance committee recommends that securities regulators review existing laws for future amendment in light of the recent Brinton Group boiler-room case.
The committee yesterday invited prosecutors, police investigators and securities regulators to testify about the case, which has drawn international attention following the recent dismissal of fraud charges against several executives of the Brinton Group.
The Securities and Exchange Commission last year accused the Brinton Group of offering unlicensed securities services and fraud leading to losses by foreign investors of nearly 6.9 billion baht.
