Jul. 25--John Rigas, founder and former chief executive officer of the bankrupt Adelphia Communications, is no stranger to Rochester.

The 78-year-old businessman, who was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on fraud charges, was the guest speaker at the United States Hockey League all-star game banquet on Jan. 25, 2000, in Rochester. He also has made many visits to Mayo Clinic.

Rigas and former Rochester Mustangs owner Dan Nasshorn became friends during Rigas' visits to Mayo. Rigas was then the owner of the Buffalo Sabres National Hockey League team.
