Sep. 6--Asian stock markets are looking increasingly at becoming profit-making private companies to improve operating efficiency.

In demutualisation, stock exchanges generally reduce their roles as market regulators to focus instead on product development and enhancing services for investors and listed firms.

The Australian Stock Exchange saw its own share price quadruple on the first day it traded as a private company, according to Alan Cameron, the deputy chairman of the Sydney Future Exchange Corporation. The ASX had since launched a futures market and built stronger relationships with other markets.
