Sep. 5--Property taxes on private schools should be waived to promote development of the sector, according to Deputy Commerce Minister Suvarn Valaisathien.
The current rate of 15-17 baht a square metre per year was too high for educational institutions, he said.
He noted that the government currently charged annual property taxes of two baht per square metre per year for snooker parlours and one baht for restaurants and food courts.
Dr Suvarn said he would meet the Interior Minister next week to discuss a possible tax exemption, something public schools currently enjoy.
