Thai Discount Supercenter Plans Nine New Stores for 2003.
Sep. 4--Big C Supercenter Plc is set to open nine new Leader Price stores next year, an increase from the existing four in the price-conscious consumer market.
The firm will spend 135-180 million baht to open the stores, which offer house-brand products at prices 15-20 percent cheaper than other branded goods.
Chief executive Yves Braibant said the consumer response to the brand, which was introduced six months ago, had been positive. "By word of mouth, customers are flocking to our stores, with some Leader Price stores getting up to 2,000 visitors per day."
