Sep. 4--The National Energy Policy Committee has agreed to extend for another year the relaxation of the requirement for medium-scale and large factories to pay at least 70 percent of the maximum power charge rate over the preceding 12 months.

Pongthep Thepkanchana, the Prime Minister's Office minister who oversees national energy policy, said the extension of the relaxation period, which was due to end this month, would help the economic recovery.

With the one-year extension, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority stand to lose 36 million baht and 218 million in annual revenue respectively.
