Sep. 3--The compulsory industrial standard to regulate audio-visual equipment and related products, which took effect three days ago, will likely be relaxed after distributors claimed it would lead to chaos in their business.
About 40 distributors met yesterday with Somkid Sangnin, director of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute's Standards Bureau 2, to look at ways to deal with the lengthy and costly testing required under the regulation.
Possible relaxation would be discussed again on Thursday, said Mr Somkid, admitting that the new rule affected many parties and there remained room for relaxation.
