Douglas Branneky keeps tradition going at St. Johns. (St. Johns Bank and Trust Co. chief executive officer) (Interview)

Douglas Branneky started out 22 years ago making copies at family owned St. Johns Bank & Trust Co. Now he's president and chief executive of the $182 million bank in St. John.

Branneky, 41, is the third generation of his family to own and operate the bank chartered in 1926. His father, Walter C. Branneky, remains chairman of the bank. But his father turned over the chief executive reigns to him this year.

"It's a family passed-down tradition," Douglas Branneky said.

His grandfather was one of the bank's original investors and his aunt, brother and two cousins still work at the bank, which has four locations -- three in the city of St. John in north county and one in the city of Bridgeton.

The bank will add a fifth location this year near St. Peters by converting a building once …
