Oct. 4--A Taiwanese businessman has decided to back out of his multi-billion-baht venture to grow orchids in Thailand, a senior Board of Investment (BoI) official said yesterday.
Yeh Kou I, who had applied for BoI investment privileges for his 33-billion-baht venture, has also cancelled his scheduled meeting with BoI secretary-general Sompong Wanapha on Oct 10. The meeting was expected to clarify techniques and technology.
No reason was given for the retreat but the project has been strenuously opposed by Thai orchid growers.
