Thai Finance Minister Denies Telling Government Savings Bank to Buy Shares.

Oct. 4--Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday denied reports that he had directed the Government Savings Bank to buy shares of BankThai.
He said the decision by the state bank to buy BankThai shares had been made by the GSB board, chaired by Somchainuk Engtrakul, finance permanent secretary.
Only after the board had approved the investment did the proposal come to the Finance Ministry.
Dr Somkid said BankThai was a good long-term investment, with a clean balance sheet and good prospects.
The GSB board had approved a 500-million-baht budget to invest in BankThai shares.
