Oct. 3--A government panel claims that four largely foreign-owned discount store chains are setting unfair prices for goods, in violation of the Trade Competition Law.
The four chains -- Tesco Lotus, Carrefour, Big C and Makro -- allegedly examined the prices of goods sold at small retail outlets before setting lower prices at their own outlets, said Newin Chidchob, the deputy commerce minister.
Mr Newin also cited an investigation of the stores' accounts by the Commercial Registration Department, which said the stores recorded losses on sales of merchandise.
