Nov. 2--Inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October rose by 0.6 percent from the previous month, the highest month-on-month increase in the past 18 months.

The year-on-year increase for October was 1.4 percent, the highest for 12 months, said Karun Kittisataporn, the permanent secretary of commerce.

The CPI in October stood at 105.1 points (base year 100 points in 1998).

Mr Karun said that prices of goods and services were continuing to rise. However, the economy would not enter a period of deflation, circumstances in which price levels of goods and services decline continuously.
