Nov. 1--Competition from non-carbonated drinks, including fruit juice, has taken its toll on Thailand's carbonated drink market, with sales growing at only half the rate recorded last year.
The total carbonated drink segment grew by 5 percent this year, compared with 10 percent in 2001, according to Charlie Jitcharoongphorn, marketing director Pepsi-Cola (Thai) Trading Co.
He said the bottled water and juice segment was slowly eating into the share of carbonated drinks, although he was unable to give the total market value of the non-carbonated drink industry.
