Oct. 4--The Finance and Transport ministries are said to be strongly opposed to the Industry Ministry's proposal to substantially raise promotional privileges to investors on the grounds that it would affect the country's revenues and be unfair to existing projects.
A draft amendment of the 1977 Investment Promotion Act, prepared by the Industry Ministry, is scheduled to go before the cabinet tomorrow, according to a source from Government House.
The amendment aims to attract more foreign direct investment and strengthen the country's competitiveness against neighbouring countries.
