Oct. 4--HELSINKI, Finland -- Call it a "strike-back" mission. The handset giant Nokia is doing an about-turn to customatisation from mass production to maintain its decade-old leadership in the global market after losing market share to smaller rivals, especially in the folding-model segment.
The Finnish mobile-phone company hopes the shift to smaller-scale production will help boost stagnant sales growth, keep its market share above 30 percent this year and stem intensified competition from Asian brands. The move is also aimed at accommodating the growing demand for highly customised handsets.
