Oct. 4--The industrial manufacturing index in August dropped from the previous month by 4 percent to 126.84 points due mainly to the decreased production of meat and meat products to cut the risk of the bird flu infection after the re-emergence of the outbreak.
Of note, exports of uncooked chicken have halted and are now being replaced by cooked or processed chicken.
In addition, less oil refining as a result of the shutdown of some major refineries for annual maintenance, and a reduction in automobile production and distribution by some carmakers due to planned changeovers for new models, also weighed on the index.
