Dec. 6--The Customs Department plans to step up import inspections, particularly on automobiles, cigarettes and liquor, in a bid to boost state revenues and clamp down on tax evasion.
Chaowalit Sethameteekul, the department's director-general, said tightening inspection procedures would potentially lead to a significant boost in revenues for the state.
He said a clampdown on grey-market car importers, for instance, could help increase revenues by up to 500,000 baht per vehicle.
The department has set a target of 117 billion baht in revenues for fiscal 2003, an increase of 20 percent from last year. Customs ...
