Dec. 3--Auto parts manufacturers are desperately seeking government assistance following the imposition of import duties that have inflated the prices of imported steel sheets and rods, their main raw material.
The anti-dumping duty had resulted in importers raising the prices of imported steel sheets and rods by more than 20 percent, inflating costs for companies that needed high quality steel, said Pramote Pongthong, president of the Thai Auto Parts Manufacturers' Association.
He said locally made steel was not an option, as it did not meet the quality standards required for making auto parts.
