Dec. 2--An increase in the number of employees joining the social security programme indicates the continuous improvement in employment levels in the private sector, according to Atchana Waiquamdee, senior director of the Bank of Thailand's monetary policy group.

The number of employees who were members of the social security programme was 6.9 million at the end of October, an increase of 16.2 percent from the same period last year.

The main growth area was in membership by companies with fewer than 10 employees, while membership by companies with 10 or more employees rose 3.7 percent year-on-year.
