Oct. 5--Industry Minister Phinij Jarusombat has threatened to shut down steel mills and take legal action against those found to have hoarded the product in collusion with wholesalers or retailers.
The Commerce Ministry, meanwhile, will inspect retail outlets to prevent traders from hoarding.
"When the ministry steps in to solve the problem, steel prices will be fair to all parties but they will have to move in line with the world prices."
Benchmark retail prices of steel bars and structural steel might also be considered today by the building materials sub-committee of the Commerce Ministry.
