Missed A Detail
In "Kerry's Wrong" (Letters, Friday), the writer brings up an interesting argument. However, he is incorrect in his premise. President Bush did indeed volunteer for Vietnam, which was noted in "Texas Volunteer" (Editorial, Tuesday).
Col. Ed Morrisey, the commanding officer who swore Bush in, has said that Bush volunteered for Vietnam service. But Bush had not yet accumulated enough time in the F-102 when the Air Force was forming a squadron to send to Southeast Asia, and he was denied, based on inexperience at that early point in his service.
That same officer made it a point to say that Bush made his training flights and then some, but there were obviously more qualified pilots in front of him.

Rather Obsessed
"Bellows For The Draft" (Editorial, Thursday) regarding CBS and the draft-issue news just reinforces the notion that Dan Rather seems to be a shill for the Democratic National Committee. Anyone else would have swallowed their ego and not put forth a story that again has problems. The lady crossing guard featured by CBS appears to be a member of a group opposed to the draft. She also is reportedly not a Republican, as introduced by CBS, but a Democrat contributor. Very interesting.
