SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California pharmacists, joined by business and patient groups in the state as well as by pharmacists in Canada, have urged the state legislature to stop passage of a number of Assembly and Senate bills that they assert would open the door to additional drug reimportation and simultaneously threaten the health of Californians as well as Canada's medicine supply. Instead, the California Pharmacists Association, the Coalition for Manitoba (Canada) Pharmacy and other groups have called on the state to formulate a workable health policy "rather than jump on an easy bandwagon of false promises" and serious risk.
"Patient safety is the No. 1 concern of pharmacists," asserts Carlo Michelotti, chief executive officer of the California Pharmacists Association. "Unfortunately, the importation bills introduced by the legislature do not include regulatory oversight by the FDA.
