Oct. 2--Thai shares climbed 2.57 percent yesterday as easing oil prices and regional equity gains helped push the main index to a one-week high.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 661.23 points, up 16.56, in trade worth 23.8 billion baht. The SET50 index of blue-chip stocks rose 3.06 percent to close at 46.09 points.

Energy stocks led trade, rising 2.38 percent for the day, while petrochemicals gained 5 percent and banks 1.13 percent.

Viriya Lapromrattana, an analyst with Kiatnakin Securities, said gains in regional markets helped boost local sentiment.
