Oct. 1--The government's announcement that it will pay a higher price for paddy in its intervention programme for the 2004/2005 season has led to a jump in prices on the futures market over the past couple of days, analysts said yesterday.

"Of course, we have seen a rise in the futures price [of rice], but it is not significant because of a lack of market liquidity. There are less players in the market and activity is one-sided. They just buy or sell," an analyst at Agro Wealth Co, a brokerage firm, said.
