Oct. 1--Raising productivity and deepening the quality of the economy will be the main challenges for Thailand over the next four years, according to Kenneth Courtis, the managing director and vice-chairman of Goldman Sachs Asia.
Dr Courtis, in a keynote address at the Bangkok Post/Reed Tradex Economic Forum yesterday, said raising the country's competitiveness was crucial if Thailand was to keep up with other countries, particularly China.
Thailand has recovered well from the 1997 crisis, with public debt and non-performing loans at controllable levels and the outlook strong with low inflation and high employment.
