There was a time when I thought that Amazing Grace ("The Man Behind Amazing Grace," August 9 issue) was simply an old black spiritual of nameless origin. Then, many years ago, I read extensively about John Newton. Your author, John White, must have had a very difficult time deciding what to leave out of his brief biography of John Newton. His life was the sort of story one would use for a Spielberg movie full of adventure, something like Star Wars.
