Jan. 10--The information and communications technology minister yesterday defended his suggestion to replace revenue-sharing payments from private telecoms operators with excise tax.
He said that using his formula as a basis for converting state concessions would benefit the public rather than telecom firms alone.
At a seminar entitled "Telecom Concession Conversion: Who Benefits", Surapong Suebwonglee's proposal came under fire from telecom experts and academics.
