Jan. 16--The law will be amended to allow the Excise Department to charge taxes on services in the future, Sathit Limpongpan, the department's director-general, said.
He said the amendments would help modernise the tax code and allow tariffs to be collected on actual services. Current law allows tariffs to be collected from service venues, rather than end-users.
Cabinet ministers on Tuesday told the Finance Ministry to draft a plan extending excise tax collections to massage parlours, spas, health clubs and golf course operations, as part of a broader policy aimed at extending the tax base.
