Jan. 15--The country's first subway system will start operating in April next year, four months ahead of the latest schedule, according to Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit.
Originally, the operation was to start in August this year. But as Bangkok Metro Corporation Ltd could not meet the deadline due to delays in obtaining financing for trains, the start was delayed to August next year.
Mr Suriya said he had succeeded in negotiating with the company and Siemens Co of Germany, the contractor for the subway trains, to speed up work.
