Jan. 14--GMM Grammy chief executive Paiboon Damrongchaitham has appointed former politician Ladawan Wongsriwong to head his direct-sales cosmetics venture, U-Star (Thailand) Co.
Mrs Ladawan, 46, yesterday confirmed that she had assumed the company's presidency on Jan 2 and held a "small" stake in the concern, which will compete against direct-sales giants such as Mistine, Giffarine and Avon.
The former Phayao MP left politics after losing her post as deputy labour minister in the October cabinet reshuffle.
A source close to the new venture said Mr Paiboon aimed to tap Mrs Ladawan's popularity and strong connections with local communities.
